1915 (c) approved Innovations Waiver effective April 1, 2008.

Innovations Waiver
Welcome to the PBH Innovations website!

Piedmont Innovations is a means of funding services and supports for people with mental retardation and other related developmental disabilities who are at risk for institutional care in an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Mental Retardation (ICF-MR). Innovations will also provide funding for people to return to their homes and communities from ICF-MRs.

Innovations is authorized by a Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waiver granted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under Section 1915(c) of the Social Security Act. Federal, State and Local dollars fund Medicaid Waivers. This Waiver was approved to be effective April 1, 2005 for three years to operate concurrently with a 1915 (b) Waiver, The Cardinal Plan. Piedmont Behavioral Healthcare is the Lead Agency for both Waivers. Innovations has since been renewed effective April 1 2008 for a five year period.

CMS approves the services provided under Innovations, the number of individuals that may participate each year, and other aspects of the program. The Waiver may be amended with the approval of CMS. CMS may terminate the Waiver whenever it believes the Waiver is not being properly implemented.
